What we think on Grows

If you are a little like me, to do lists and planning steps to accomplish weekly feats are at the forefront of your mind...keeping us busy on both the mental and physical plane day in and day out.

For me, if and or when I allow my thoughts to hyper focus on the "to do's" and steps (which happens more that I would like to admit) then it feels like those "to-do's" and steps to take just grow longer and longer!

We understand that life, on one level, will always need to be worked and organized which requires planning and executing. And yet of equal value, and perhaps even more important, is to take time to think on things that help us feel rejuvenated, relaxed and already accomplished just by being where we are. In other words to stop always striving and smell the roses.

A consistent yoga practice can help us with this endeavor. Breathing and moving through poses can help shift us from the fray into the calm and ready us for increased presence. When we are present we can exist in a knowing of what we have already accomplished...and it doesn't need to be in clear focus. It's rather like gently holding that knowing (of what Is good and accomplished already In your life) with deep satisfaction and contentment as we exist in presence with ourselves. When we practice in this way we increase our ability to see positively. As we practice presence, we increase our ability to use imagination and creative thinking. When this happens we may get visions of big dreams and flashes of insight. Before you know it we are no longer focused on our to do's etc. but rather free in our presence. And free to exist in the things and places we want to see more of in our lives. Even if the moments are brief they are powerful!

Creating space (presence) by practicing yoga infuses us with good energy and gives life to hope and the ability to think on the more positive aspects of life. The saying "what we think on grows" is, of course, really about our perspective. When I focus only on the to do lists, etc. it feels the lists "grow". When I take time to Not focus by taking time to practice presence through my yoga then my perspective can shift to seeing more positively to what is and thinking more creatively about becoming more of who and what I (we) want.

See you on the mat!
